They’ll say it’s circular, that it could “prove any god,” or that Christians are cheating by starting with the Bible. But when you slow down and actually look at what’s being said, the objections fall apart fast.

Here’s a simple breakdown of the six biggest objections—and why they fail.

1. “TAG Works for Any God!” (Flying Spaghetti Monster, etc.)

What people say:
“If your argument works, then it could prove any made-up god too!”

What’s actually true:
Presuppositional Apologetics is not arguing for a made-up god or a generic god. It argues for the real God of the Bible and all of His revealed attributes and character the only one who can explain:

why logic exists,

why nature is orderly,

why knowledge is possible.

Fake gods or silly imaginary beings can’t explain the real world.
Only the Triune God (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) can handle the “unity and diversity” we see in nature.

Now do not miss this final point! When atheists try to copy the God of the bible and give this god a different name to try and stump the presuppositionalist Christian then all that does is give even more credibility and power to the Christian view.

Imaginary gods work great in memes… not in reality.

2. “You’re Using the Bible to Prove the Bible! Circular!”

What people say:
“You’re just assuming God exists to prove that God exists!”

What’s actually true:
Everybody reasons in a circle when talking about their ultimate authority.

You use logic to prove logic.

You use your senses to prove your senses.

You use reason to prove reason.

That’s normal.

But here’s the key:
The Christian circle is a forward spiral (healthy).
The unbeliever’s circle is a trap (unhealthy).

The Presup view is circular in the same way a slinky or a spring is:

It loops

but it moves forward

it expands into real-world reasoning

and it always returns to its solid foundation—Scripture.

Unbelievers are stuck on a flat circle.
Christians walk a spiral of truth.

3. “Can Other Religions Use Your Argument?”

What people say:
“Couldn’t Muslims or Hindus use the same argument for their gods?”

What’s actually true:
Nope.

Their gods:

aren’t Triune

aren’t eternal in the right way

contradict themselves

or act more like humans with superpowers.

The Christian God is the only one whose nature actually explains:

logic,

moral laws,

science,

unity and diversity,

human dignity,

and the structure of reality.

Other gods fall apart under internal critique.

If the “god” you defend is basically a Marvel superhero or some mysterious unknowable deity… he’s not accounting for logic, morality, and the laws of nature.

4. “Presuppositionalists Reject Natural Revelation!”

What people say:
“You guys don’t believe creation shows God exists!”

What’s actually true:
Presuppositionalists love Romans 1.

We believe:

God does reveal Himself in nature.

Everyone does know God exists.

The problem is not evidence—
the problem is their rejection.

Unbelievers aren’t lacking information; they’re running from it.

It’s like someone wearing sunglasses complaining that the sun “isn’t bright enough.”

5. “Presuppositionalists Think Unbelievers Know Nothing!”

What people say:
“You guys claim atheists can’t do math or science!”

What’s actually true:
Of course atheists can do math and science.

The point isn’t that they can’t know things.
The point is that their worldview can’t explain why they know things.

They borrow logic, morality, and order from the Christian worldview—even while denying the God who gives those things meaning.

It’s like using your parents’ credit card to claim your parents don’t exist.

6. “You’re Confusing Ontology and Epistemology!”

What people say:
“You mix up existence (ontology) and how we know things (epistemology).”

What’s actually true:
Presuppositionalists keep them separate but connected.

God exists (ontology).

We know He exists because God reveals Himself in His creation and his word, the bible (epistemology).

You can’t have real knowledge of God without revelation, and revelation wouldn’t matter if God didn’t really exist.

They work together.

It’s like a phone (ontology) and Wi-Fi (epistemology).
You need both to actually communicate.

Takeaways

1. Critique the real position—not a fake one.

Many people attack what they think presuppositionalists believe.

2. We share “common notions,” not “common ground.”

Christians and unbelievers share experiences like logic, morality, and senses.
But we do not share a neutral starting point.
There is no worldview-free zone.

3. Presuppositionalists do substantiate claims.

They just don’t start with “generic theism.”
They start with the God of Scripture, because without Him, nothing else can be proven at all.

Bottom Line for Youth

Presuppositional Apologetics doesn’t dodge objections.
It exposes the fact that most objections collapse under their own weight.

No other worldview can:

justify logic,

explain morality,

account for human dignity,

or make sense of science and truth.

Only the Christian worldview can.

Because only the Christian worldview is true.

T.A.G. TAG does the opposite. It shows that you can’t even start thinking unless God already exists. Logic? You got it from God. Morals? From God. Science? Also from God. Even the atheist who argues against God has to borrow from Him just to make the argument.

Once you see this, you can’t unsee it.

In parts one and two of this series we discussed TAG in passing but let us now take a deeper look.

1. What Is TAG? (Simple Version)

TAG stands for the Transcendental Argument for God.

That sounds complicated, but here’s all it means:

Without God, nothing else makes sense.

Not logic.
Not science.
Not morality.
Not knowledge.
Not truth.
Not even arguments.

Everything you use to think, learn, or make decisions needs God behind it to make sense of it.

2. A Little Background (No Philosophy Degree Needed)

Cornelius Van Til

He’s the guy who summarized TAG with this mic-drop line:

“Atheism presupposes theism.”

Translation: the atheist needs God just to argue against God.

Greg Bahnsen

He explained TAG in debates and showed how every non-Christian worldview eventually collapses.

Immanuel Kant

Not a Christian, but he pointed out that you can’t have knowledge unless certain things are already true.
Van Til said: “Exactly — and God is the ultimate thing that must be true.”

3. The Bible Actually Teaches This

TAG is not just philosophy — it’s biblical.

Colossians 2:3 — In Christ are hidden all treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Proverbs 1:7 — The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.

Romans 1:18–21 — Everyone already knows God exists, but unbelievers suppress the truth.

So Scripture says:

You start with God,

not try to reason to God.

4. God and Logic (Why Math and Arguments Need God)

Lots of people think logic is something humans created. Not true.

TAG says:

God didn’t invent logic as a tool.

Logic reflects the mind of God.

God is perfectly rational, consistent, and truthful.

So when people use logic, they’re actually using something grounded in God’s nature.

5. How We Know Anything (Revelational Epistemology)

Fancy phrase, simple meaning:

We can know things because God reveals truth.

Without God:

How would you know your mind is reliable?

Why would logic work?

Why would nature act the same tomorrow as today?

Why would “right” and “wrong” mean anything?

Atheism can’t explain any of these.
Christianity explains all of them.

6. The Problem with Unbelief

The Bible calls the unbeliever a “fool.” Not an insult — it means:

Someone who can think, but can’t justify their thinking. Someone who can see the evidence for God everywhere but still do not believe.

They know things.
But they can’t explain how knowledge is possible in their worldview.

It’s like having WiFi but no router. You are getting internet access but cannot explain why or where it comes from.

They use logic, science, and morality, but their worldview provides no foundation for those things.

7. “Atheism Presupposes Christian Theism”

This means:

The atheist uses logic → which only works because the God of the bible exists.

The atheist trusts science → which only works because the God of the bible makes nature orderly.

The atheist makes moral claims → which only work because the God of the bible is holy.

Every worldview except Christianity eventually breaks apart.

Christianity alone can explain:

why reality is rational,

why truth exists,

why logic doesn’t change,

why science works,

why morality is real.

8. The Slap Analogy

Van Til gave this legendary illustration:

A child sits on her father’s lap so she can slap him.

She can only slap him because he’s supporting her.

Same with atheism:

They sit on God’s lap (using logic, order, morality)

Then use those things to argue against the God who gave them.

They have to borrow from Christianity just to reject Christianity.

9. Why TAG Is So Strong

TAG isn’t powerful because Christians are smart.
It’s powerful because the Bible is true.

Once someone ditches Scripture as the final authority, everything starts falling apart — miracles, the resurrection, the atonement, all of it.

TAG protects the foundation.

10. The Impossibility of the Contrary

TAG doesn’t say:

“God is probably real,”
or

“God is the best explanation.”

It says something way stronger:

Without the Christian God, nothing can be explained at all.

No God → no logic, no knowledge, no truth, no science, no morality.

Christianity is true because everything else fails if you try to remove God.

This is TAG in one sentence:

Christianity is true because of the impossibility of the contrary.

Classical vs Presup For Youth (pt. 2 of the series)

A Simple Outline

Ricky W. Everyone already has a worldview. And the Bible says every person either begins with God or suppresses the truth about Him (Romans 1).

Presuppositional apologetics understands this. Classical apologetics are sincere in wanting to meet the unbeliever in the middle but they are sincerely mistaken and wrong.

Let’s break it down in simple terms.

The Myth of Neutrality

Classical apologetics often allow themselves to please the atheist and agree to say:

“Let’s pretend God does not exists. Let’s start neutral.”

But the Bible says:

God is the starting point of knowledge (Proverbs 1:7).

People already know God exists (Romans 1:18–20).

Unbelievers suppress that truth.

So trying to “be neutral” means stepping off God’s truth and stepping onto the unbeliever’s worldview.

It’s like:

You’re standing on a rock.
The atheist is standing in sand.
Classical apologetics says: “Let me jump onto the sand so we can be fair.”

Presuppositional apologetics says:
“No way. The rock is the truth. I’m staying here.”

The Two Different Starting Points

There are two main approaches to apologetics:

1. Classical Apologetics: Start With Yourself

The Classical method goes like this:

Use your own logic and reasoning to try to prove a “generic god.”

Once that god is proven, bring in evidence like miracles and prophecy to argue for the Christian God.

The problems?

A “generic god” isn’t the God of the Bible.

The unbeliever gets to judge whether God exists.

It treats human reason as the boss — at least for a while.

This is like putting God on trial and letting sinners be the judge.

2. Presuppositional Apologetics: Start With God

Presuppositionalists say:

We don’t reason to God.

We reason from God.

God isn’t the conclusion — He’s the foundation.

Without Him:

Logic doesn’t make sense.

Morality has no anchor.

Science has no reason to work.

Truth would just be opinions.

This approach never sets the Bible aside. Why?
Because the Bible is the source of knowledge, not something we prove by standing on something else.

Do Presuppositionalists Use Evidence? Yes!

Some people think presuppositionalists refuse to use evidence. Not true.

They absolutely use:

scientific evidence

historical evidence

logical reasoning

But the key difference is this:

👉 Evidence is used to expose the unbeliever’s worldview, not to pretend we’re neutral.

The unbeliever can use math, science, and logic — but they can’t justify why these things exist without God. Basically this means that they have no consistent logical explanation for why these things exist or why they are vital to use and trust in them.

It’s like they’re borrowing tools from Christianity to tear Christianity down.

Van Til called this “borrowing capital.”
It’s like using your parents’ money to argue that parents don’t exist.

What About Nature? Doesn’t It Show That God Is Real?

Romans 1 says creation clearly shows God’s power and nature.

But here’s the twist:

Believers see creation and glorify God.

Unbelievers see creation and twist it into idolatry.

Why?
Because sin affects how we think (called the “noetic effects of sin”).

So using nature alone to reason someone into the kingdom doesn’t work.
They already know God — they just suppress the truth.

TAG: The Transcendental Argument (Simple Version)

TAG claims:

👉 Without God, nothing makes sense — not even arguments against God.

Why?

Because things like logic, morality, and science only make sense if the God of the Bible exists.

Atheism can’t explain:

Why logic works

Why the universe is orderly

Why morality is objective

Why our minds can understand truth

Only the Trinity can account for unity + diversity, order + personhood, logic + morality.

Why Reformed Theology Matters Here

Presuppositional apologetics is built on core Reformed beliefs:

Total depravity: sin affects our thinking.

Sovereignty of God: only God opens hearts.

Sola Scriptura: the Bible is always our authority — even in apologetics.

We don’t argue people into the kingdom.
Only the Spirit changes hearts.

Our job is to tell the truth, expose false worldviews, and call people to repentance.

The Hill That Must Be Defended

Here is a great illustration:

If your sergeant tells you to defend a hill, you don’t leave the hill
just because the enemy doesn’t like fighting there and rather stay and fight in the forest.

The “hill” is Scripture.
Neutral ground is the forest.

Classical apologetics runs into the forest.
Presuppositional apologetics stays on the hill and holds the line.

Simple Summary for Students

Here’s the whole method in one sentence:

👉 Don’t step off the truth of Scripture to defend Scripture.

Start with God.
Stay with God.
Reason from God.
And watch every other worldview fall apart.

Presuppositional Apologetics For Young Teens (pt. 1 of series)

A Simple Outline

Ricky W. They let non-Christians decide the “rules” of the conversation and then wonder why the discussion falls apart. Presuppositional apologetics flips that whole idea. Instead of starting with “human opinions,” we start with God, because He’s the One who gives us logic, morality, truth, and the ability to understand anything at all.

That may sound deep, but stick with me—this is stuff every student can understand.

What’s a Presupposition?

A presupposition is something you believe before you look at any evidence.
Everyone has them—atheists, Christians, skeptics, everyone.

Here’s the Christian starting point:

👉 God exists, and nothing makes sense without Him.

We don’t know anything—logic, science, right and wrong—unless God is real.

What Does “Apologetics” Mean?

People hear “apologetics” and think it means apologizing.
Nope.

It comes from 1 Peter 3:15, where God tells us to give a defense for the hope inside us.

That means:

explaining what we believe

showing why it’s true

defending the Christian worldview

Every Christian is called to do this—even teenagers.

Why We Start With the Bible (Not Neutral Ground)

Presuppositional apologetics is rooted in simple truths:

The Bible is our final authority.

People are sinners who naturally reject God.

So we don’t start conversations pretending God might not exist.
That’s not neutral—that’s giving up the Christian foundation.

Proverbs 26 gives us our battle plan:

1️⃣ “Don’t answer a fool according to his folly.”
→ Don’t use the unbeliever’s assumptions. Don’t pretend God isn’t real.

2️⃣ “Answer a fool according to his folly.”
→ Show how their worldview falls apart without God.

It’s a one-two punch:

State the Christian worldview clearly.

Show how other worldviews cannot support logic, morality, or truth.

The Big Idea Behind TAG (The Transcendental Argument)

TAG basically says this:

👉 Only the Christian worldview can explain how knowledge works.

Think about it—why do these things exist?

The laws of logic

Science and the order of nature

Right and wrong

Reliable memory and senses

Atheism can’t explain these things. Other religions can’t ground them. Every time someone uses logic to argue against God, they’re actually borrowing from the Christian worldview.

Like Van Til said:

“Atheism presupposes Christian theism.”

Meaning:
they need God to argue against God.

Romans 1: Everyone Already Knows God Exists

According to Romans 1:

God shows Himself in creation

everyone knows He exists

unbelievers suppress the truth

So the problem isn’t lack of evidence.
The problem is the human heart.

That’s why neutrality doesn’t exist

Nobody comes into a conversation with a blank slate.
Everyone has beliefs they start with.

If Christians try to argue from a “neutral” position, they’ve already stepped into unbelieving territory.

There is no such thing as neutral ground.

Why This Matters for Students

Presuppositional apologetics helps you:

stand confidently on Scripture

understand why Christianity makes sense

see the weakness in false worldviews

point people to Christ with clarity and boldness

It’s not about winning arguments.
It’s about standing firmly on the truth God has revealed.
